TURBANSTurbans are an important part of Indian Tradition. It is an offical requirement to wear one for all sikh men and represented sikhism and that they were followers of it. Turbans are cloth that has been woven around someones head to become firm and sort of like a hat. There is special turban that is worn only for battle callled the Dumalla, it has a metal symbol on it of a cresent sword and a double-edged sword. As part of their religion Sikhs don;t cut their hair and the turbans therefore keeps their hair clean and protected.Turbans come in many different colours and can be worn in many different styles. The most commony wworn colours are blue,orange, white and black.
PUNJABI WEDDING TRADITIONS
Punjabi weddings are known for being loud energetic and full of life. They are late at night and involve all night dancing. Punjabi weddings have many wedding and pre-wedding rituals.
Here are some pre-wedding rituals below: 1. Roku- the informal agreement between the families of the bride and groom. It involves a small Puja (religious praying and offerings) and gifts are also exchanged between the families. This ritual was shown in Bend it like Beckham. 2. Sagan and chunni chadana- The bride is given a red chunni (long scarf) by her future sister-in-law and is given boiled rice nad milk by her future mother-in-law. Here are some wedding rituals: 1. Varmala/Jaimala- The bride and groom exchange garlands(wreaths). 2. Sehrabandi- As the groom is gettign ready to leave for his wedding, the turban he is supposed to wear is blessed by elders and he is given cash gifts. |
SARISSaris are strips of cloth that are draped over the body in various styles. Saris are only worn by women.There are many many different ways of wearing a sari, 80 is the current recorded amount of ways. The most common way of wearing a sari is to wrap it around your waist with one end draped over the shoulder. Many women change their sari designs regularly Saris have been an big part of Indian culture since their first originated in 2800-1800 BC.
